Parents opposed to grade level centers rally along Wolf Road outside River Trails Middle School in Mt. Prospect prior to Tuesday night's Dist. 26 school board meeting.
Whether or not the concept is approved in coming weeks, River Trails Elementary School Dist. 26 board members decided Tuesday night there is not enough time and too much work needed to implement grade level centers (GLCs) district-wide for the 2010-11 school year.
As Prospect Hts. continues to struggle with revenues, even the firing of three employees, non re-hiring of several other positions and increased water rates won't save the city budget. With discussions nearly complete, Prospect Hts. is expected to allow a $110,000 deficit in its 2010-2011 budget.

In order to keep reserve monies at the 25% level and to have enough to pay upcoming expenses, Prospect Hts. School Dist. 23 trustees last week directed Supt. Dr. Greg Guarrine to come back to the Mar. 10 board meeting with a plan to cut an additional $400,000 on top of an estimated $900,000 that has been presented to board members.
